The Quitman Lady Bulldogs ended pre-season play with a victory over Class 4A Van last Tuesday night in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-14, giving them an 18-7 record.
Quitman started fast racing to an early 12-2 lead in the first game and stretching it to 17-5 on a kill by Molly Tanner. Quitman got a tip by Kaci Raley over the outstretched hands of Van defenders to put the game away with a 23-10 lead before finishing them off 25-15.
In game two, Van played it close leading all the way until Madalyn Spears tied the game at 19-19 on a powerful kill the Lady Vandals could not handle. Van would not score again as Quitman ran off nine consecutive points for the win.
In the third game, Quitman took an early 7-6 lead and were never behind again in the contest. Raley, Spears and Tanner each had kills in the game usually on the skillful assists of Cammie Hicks who had 28 assists for the entire match.
Statistics for the match were Raley eight digs, 13 kills, four aces, three blocks; Tanner eight digs, 11 kills, two aces, one block; Hicks two digs, one kill, one ace, 28 assists and Spears 13 digs, five kills, one ace.
