Quitman falls to Grand Saline in close five-setter
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs fell at Grand Saline in a five set marathon last Friday 25-18, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 13-15.
Each set was close and fought fiercely on both sides of the net. The Loss drops Quitman to 4-3 in district with a big match coming up against Rains.
“This was a super tough loss. I thought we played well though. It just didn’t go our way. I’m very proud of these young ladies and their willingness to improve consistently,” Coach Ashlee Lingo said.
Ava Burroughs led the offensive effort with 19 kills while Jentri Jackson added 13 kills. Jackson also had 14 digs with teammate Shelby Hayes adding 45 assists, 10 digs and four kills.
Julia Simpkins continued her consistent play with nine kills and seven digs, while Maddy Whitehurst added 134 digs, five kills an ace and a block. Lucy Brannon had 18 digs and eight kills. Lindsey Hornaday added 10 digs and a kill, while Brooklyn Marcee had eight digs.
The Quitman JV won by scores of 25-20, 13-25, 25-19.
