Accident claims life of young Mineola student
A one vehicle accident last Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 22) just before 4 p.m. led to the death of nine year old Cameron Reed, a Mineola third grade student. The accident occurred on Van Zandt County Road 4907 eight miles west of Ben Wheeler. Reed was taken to Trinity Mother Frances Hospital and then moved to Children’s Medical Center, Dallas, where he died Wednesday afternoon.
The driver of the vehicle, a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, was 75 year old Emma Williams, Ben Wheeler, who was taken to Trinity Mother Francis Hospital and is in stable condition. Other injuries were to an eight year old male and a seven year old male who are both at Trinity Mother Frances in stable condition. A 16 year old was also injured and is in stable condition at East Texas Medical Center.
Preliminary reports said Williams was traveling at a speed too high for the wet road conditions at the time. Williams was unable to make a turn and slid sideways into a tree. None of the victims were wearing seat belts.
