Quitman football stadium getting new scoreboard
Bud Moody Stadium will have a new state-of-the-art scoreboard for football this fall.
Thanks to an $80,000 donation from First National Bank of East Texas, formerly Wood County National Bank, the new scoreboard will become a reality. The total cost of the new Dak-Tronics equipment is $97,890 with the QISD having to pay $17,890. The old scoreboard had been in need of expensive repairs, and there were constant problems with it during the last couple football seasons.
Board member Michael Hipp was excited about the purchase.
“We really got a great deal on getting a scoreboard for Bud Moody Stadium,” he said. “We are thankful to First National Bank of East Texas for stepping up with the $80,000 donation for something we can be proud to have at the football field. The new scoreboard will be as nice as any in East Texas.”
Athletic Director Shane Webber was also pleased with the purchase.
“This scoreboard is user-friendly and it is American made,” Webber said. “Ron and Don Poe endorse Dak-Tronics and I trust their opinion.” Ron and Don Poe are former Quitman football players who became legendary coaches in Texas high school football.
During the recent bad weather, the awning at Quitman Elementary was severely damaged. The board approved a bid $26,168 from East Texas Awning and Canvas for the project.
The board approved $172,950 for paving the bus barn, gym parking lot and the field house road. In other business, the board accepted a bid of $4,311 for six lots in the Clear Lakes area.
