Quitman girls throttle Tyler All Saints
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs handed Coach Blake Hamrick an early Christmas present with a solid 53-30 victory over All Saints in Tyler Friday evening.
After starting slow in their past two games, this time the Lady Bulldogs made sure that did not happen, taking an 18-5 first quarter advantage. The Lady Bulldogs’ aggressive defense led to several All Saints turnovers.
The Lady Bulldogs took a big 43-12 advantage into the final quarter before finishing with the 53-30 win.
Sophomore post Ava Burroughs is getting back into the flow of the games after suffering a concussion which kept her out several games. She went 9-14 from the field scoring 18 points to lead Quitman. Senior Maddy Whitehurst continued her consistent play scoring 14 points and hauling down 10 rebounds.
Senior point guard Shelby Hayes had one of her best games of the year and was near perfect hitting 5-6 from the field, including one three-point shot. She added a pair of free throws for 13 points. Kynlie Love had four points, and Madison Pence and Carley Spears each had two points. Quitman again dominated the boards with 28 rebounds to 17 for All Saints.
Quitman will be back in action Thursday-Saturday with a Christmas tournament at Hawkins. District 12-3A action begins Jan. 3 on the road at Grand Saline.
