Quitman golfers advance to region


Both Quitman golf teams will advance to region tournaments at Bullard next week. The Quitman girls team anchored by Abby Dobbs came in third place at the district championship. Josh Medlin’s individual first place finish sparked the Quitman boys team to a second place spot at the region event.

Both teams will play in the Region II Tournament at Bullard’s Oak Hurst Golf Course. The boy’s will compete Monday and Tuesday while the girl’s will play next Wednesday and Thursday.

The teams played a total of 18 holes, were regrouped by individual scores and were sent back out for nine more holes.

In the girls competition Dobbs shot 110 on the first 18 holes followed by a 59 on the final nine for a 169 total and the individual third place medal. Julia Simpkins had a 115-56 score finishing fourth overall just two strokes back of Dobbs while Brenley Von Reyn took seventh place with scores of 127-53. Lillie Danner shot 144-72 and Baylee Eberhardt shot 147-72 to round out the district champ’s scoring.

Medlin won the first place medal with scores of 87-50 followed by Garrett Peek’s fifth place finish at 97-57 and Aiden Corrior in 10th place with 111-53 scores. Hunter Gilbreath had 118-57 and Jace Reid posted 131-71 to round out the second place team effort.
