Quitman has first two COVID-19 related deaths

Wood County has reached 20 deaths related to COVID-19, and Quitman recorded its first two.

According to the Northeast Texas Public Health District, Mineola has had nine deaths, Winnsboro eight, Quitman two and Alba one as of Thursday.

Total cases are 572 with another 72 probable. Some 68 are active cases with 432 recoveries. Among probable cases, 64 remain active with one death.

Mineola reached 199 total cases, Quitman 109, Winnsboro 78, Alba 54, Yantis 34 and Hawkins 33. Those counts do not include probable cases.

According to the state, 4,518 Wood County residents have been tested for COVID-19 as of Sept. 22.

The county's nursing homes have recorded 17 deaths as of Sept. 10.
