Quitman hosting two neighbors in tournament
Three Wood County boys basketball programs will be on display beginning Thursday through Saturday at the Quitman Basketball Tournament at Ballard Memorial Gym and the high school gym.
Quitman will be joined by fellow county teams from Winnsboro and Alba-Golden along with teams from Celeste, Union Hill, Harleton and Hooks.
All varsity games except Friday’s 10:30 a.m. Quitman vs. Harleton contest will take place at Ballard Gym each day. The Quitman vs. Harleton varsity game will be at the high school gym. The junior varsity games will be at the high school gym Thursday and Friday. All of the games, varsity and JV, will be at Ballard Gym Saturday.
Unlike a tournament with brackets, this tournament allows each team to get in four games in the three-day affair.
A tournament champion will be decided by three things: tournament record, head to head competition and point differential up to 25 points.
Quitman varsity will open tournament play Thursday against Union Hill at 6 p.m. Quitman plays the Harleton game at 10:30 a.m. at the high school Friday and moves to Ballard Memorial Gym for a 6 p.m. game against Celeste. The Bulldogs will finish the tournament with the final game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Ballard against Hooks.
Alba-Golden will play a 1:30 p.m. Thursday game against Union Hill before they take on Winnsboro at Ballard Gym at 4:30 p.m. The Panthers will take on Celeste Friday at 1:30 p.m. and finish the tournament Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Hooks.
