Bulldog baseball advances in playoffs
The Bulldog's baseball team advanced to the area round of the playoffs, winning two games to one of a three game series against the Kemp Yellow jackets over the weekend. The Bulldogs won Friday night in five innings with great pitching from Chew Ramirez, and with hot bats as the bulldogs put up nine runs in the first inning. Ramirez struck out the first six batters on his way to a no-hitter along with his two hits, one RBI, and one run scored. Lenzie Foley had two hits, two RBI's, and two runs. Cord Conley had a double and a single with a RBI and two runs. Colby Peek had two hits, an RBI and two runs. Chase Turner had a double, two hits, four RBIs and scored once. Casey Walls had a hit, an RBI and one run scored. Austin White had a hit, an RBI and one run in the 12-0 win.
In game two at Kemp, the Bulldogs held the lead until the Jackets pulled ahead in the final inning, making the final score 6-5. Foley was on the mound throwing 10 strikeouts, while only allowing six hits in the game. He also had two hits and one run scored. White had two hits and two runs. Corey Ingram had two hits. Ramirez had one hit and one run. Conley had a hit. Peek also had one hit and an RBI. Jacob Hurley had a double and one run. Chase Turner had a double and one RBI.
The Bulldogs played the final game thirty minutes after the second one at the Jackets' field, winning 11-3 in seven innings. Ramirez was behind the plate again, picking up his ninth win on the year. He threw out twelve, allowed five hits, and added a hit and one run of his own. Foley's stick was hot as he hit a home run, a triple, a double and had five RBIs. He also scored three runs. Walls had two hits and scored once. White had one hit, an RBI and one run. Conley had a hit and two RBIs. Ingram had a hit and scored a run. Hurley had a hit, an RBI and one run scored. And Nathan Johnson got a hit and two runs scored. The Bulldog pitchers, with the help of some outstanding defense behind them, only allowed 11 hits in three games with just 8 runs scored against them. The Bulldogs' sticks produced 34 hits with 28 runs scored in the series. The Bulldogs will face the Mt Vernon Tigers in the area round on Friday at 7 p.m. at Greenville High School and then again on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. in Greenville.
