Quitman ladies split four tournament games
After taking a 47-34 win at home against Grace Community of Tyler, the Quitman Lady Bulldogs got in plenty of work at the White Oak Tournament over the weekend.
In the win over Grace, Quitman broke open a tight game in the second half. With the score at the half 22-21 in favor of Quitman, the Lady Bulldog defense came up big in the second half, holding the Lady Cougars to 13 points while scoring 25.
Quitman post Kaysi Parker continued her consistent play scoring 20 points and adding 12 rebounds. Allie Berry added 10 points for Quitman.
The Lady Bulldogs scored a pair of wins at the White Oak Tournament, defeating Gladewater and the host Lady Roughnecks.
Coach Blake Hamrick said, “I thought we improved this weekend. There were some ups and downs, I thought we played our worst game of the year against Beckville and then turned around and played our best game of the year against White Oak, so the potential for us to be really good is there, we just have to be able to do it more consistently.
“Ashley (Davis) has done a good job this year of running the offense and is getting better every day, Reiny (Luman) finally played this weekend like how we know she can, and Kaysi (Parker) and Maddy (Pence) are still our most consistent players. We have one more week to polish things up before we start district next week.”
In a 59-29 win against White Oak, Parker put in 16 points while Luman came through with 11 points. Freshman Sadie Vander Schaaf scored 10 points while fellow freshman Berry had nine points and hustled the boards for 13 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs took a commanding 44-17 lead at the half and never looked back.
The Lady Bulldogs took down Gladewater 67-21 after their hustling defense and well-balanced offense led them to a 41-10 halftime lead. Parker and Pence each had 17 points, Luman added 13 points and eight rebounds. Berry added eight points and 11 rebounds.
In the tournament Quitman lost to Queen City 47-37 and Beckville 40-34.
After a Tuesday date at New Diana, the Lady Bulldogs travel to Terrell Dec. 10 and open district play Dec. 14 against Mt. Vernon at home.
