Posted

In one of their finest performances to date, a well-balanced Quitman Lady Bulldog team used a powerful third quarter to defeat Big Sandy 61-21 last Tuesday at Ballard Memorial Gym.

After taking a 25-12 lead at the half, the Lady Bulldog full court press produced numerous Big Sandy turnovers as Quitman went on a 17-1 run in the third quarter to give the Lady Bulldogs a 42-13 advantage going into the final quarter. The Quitman team defense was superb throughout the contest.

The return of post Ava Burroughs was evident, but all eight of the Lady Bulldogs who participated added an element to the victory. Although she only scored three points, Kynlee Love was instrumental in her constant hustle and solid defensive play. Love had seven rebounds and three steals.

Lindsey Hornaday had a stout defensive effort for Quitman. She scored seven points, but it was her defensive efforts which made a difference. Hornaday recorded eight steals which turned into Quitman points.  Hornaday, Bonnie VanderSchaff and Ashley Davis each had three assists. VanderSchaff also added five points.

Maddy Pence had one of her best games to date, not only playing solid defense but adding seven offensive rebounds to go with her game-high 19 points. Pence added three steals and five deflections, and she was successful on over 50% of her shots. Pence had only one turnover in her overall solid performance.

Burroughs’ return saw the junior score 17 points on 7-12 from the field and 3-6 from the free throw line. She had 12 rebounds and two blocked shots giving her an excellent effort for Quitman.

Kaysi Parker came through with six points and eight rebounds along with a pair of blocked shots and two steals. Parker has continued to show great improvement each game. Carley Spears added four points, and she battled inside the paint to grab seven rebounds. She also had two steals.
