Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club dedicates dog park

Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club officially dedicated the Quitman dog park Wednesday.

The park is part of a much larger plan to create a walking trail from Gov. Jim Hogg City Park to the city pool.

The park has been open about a year, and the finishing touches have been completed, including a concrete walkway to access the park.

Club members gathered at the park last Wednesday for the dedication, off Elaine St.

The fenced park features two areas for large dogs and small dogs and several benches.

Though much clearing had to be accomplished to build the park, it still includes numerous trees to keep it shaded.

A heavy-duty bridge was also built over the creek to access the park.

Club members have continued working to clear sections of the walking trail, which extends in both directions from the dog park.

Plans include a disc golf course, to be completed by next summer.
