Quitman Library Connections


Here in Texas, gardeners enjoy a very long growing season compared to some of our northern neighbors. The Quitman Garden Club’s recommended gardening books are showcased near the library’s front check-out desk and are ready for check out. While you’re here, enjoy the beautiful patios that are maintained year-round by the Quitman Garden Club.

Mark your calendar for the 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Jam on May 11 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Doors open at 5 p.m. Acoustical musicians are welcome, and listeners are welcome too. Refreshments are available, but feel free to bring anything you like. For more information, call 903-975-5745.

Adult Services

GED preparatory class meets each Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m. Students are guided according to the Steck-Vaughn method which is in alignment with the GED test. Sign up at the library’s front desk, or call for more information. Class will end on May 24 for a summer break and is scheduled to resume Sept. 6.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets year-round each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for this free instruction.

Children’s Services

QPL Story Time is each Thursday at 2 p.m. and is designed for young readers and home-schooled students; however, anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. On April 26, Angie Monk, Wood County Extension Agent, will present “Learning to Eat Healthy.” Upcoming themes: May 3 “Lets Write a Book Together” – May 10 “Stop and Smell the Flowers” – May 17 “Mothers and Fathers are Important” – May 24 “Party at Hogg Park!”

Friends of the Library

The Friends invite everyone to bring a lunch and join them at noon on Tuesday, May 8, for an hour of friendship. This will be the last meeting before summer break, and members invite everyone to bring something and join them for a lunch in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room.
