Quitman High School Theater Department opens their season this Thursday night, November 13, at 7:00 p.m. with the depression era music al Annie. Additional shows will be Saturday, November 15, at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 16, 2:00 p.m. and Monday November 17, 7:00 p.m. Tickets for each performance are just $5.00 and can be purchased at the door.

Annie is set in the depths of the 1930s with Annie , a fiery young orphan girl living in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Her hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend a short time at the residence of wealthy industrialist, Oliver Warbucks.

She quickly charms the hearts of the household staff and even the seemingly cold-heated Warbucks can't help but learn to love this wonderful girl. He decides to help Annie find her long lost parents by offering a reward if they could come to him and prove their identity.

However, Miss Hannigan, her evil brother Rooster, and a female accomplice, plan to impersonate those people to gain the reward for themselves putting Annie in grave danger.

The cast finds Caroline Cameron playing the leading role of Annie with Joel Graham taking on the Warbucks role. Also in lead roles are Brenna Gardner as Lily, Maddie Driver as Grace, Dalton Capps is Rooster, and Helen Sperling plays Miss Hannigan. Other members of the cast are Noah Morris, Britney Holcombe, Cody McGill, Rita Roman, Megan Crawford, Daniel Manley, Emmy Brown, Daisy Kearby, Maddie Webber, Shelby Bettis, Kelsey Dubose, Kersten Ellison, Cara Looney, Kate Starnes, Molly Tanner, Gage Tolle, Sydney White and Elise Woodruff.

The Quitman Theatre Department is well-known for providing UIL state quality performances each year under Director Katrina Johnson.

"Unlike the one-act play for competition in the spring, the fall musical is a class project. All of the students in the advanced theater production class are in the musical," Johnson explained.

The members of the cast are excited about the production.

"The fall is the time for a fun show like the musical," Dalton Capps said. "In the spring, we will get busy and focus hard on the one-act play."

"We are so excited to perform Annie. It's a show we have all grown up watching," added cast member Maddie Driver.

Members of the Drama Momma's Booster Club will be on hand to sell "Friends of the Theatre" memberships. The memberships are for sale to businesses and individuals and it includes free passes to upcoming shows, advance notice of Fine Arts programs at Quitman High School and their name and business mentioned in every QHS Theatre program.
