Quitman Library Connections

Across the country, gardeners are celebrating National Gardening Month. On display this month is a collection of books – ranging from novice to expert – to help you grow your best garden ever. Many of the books were selected by the Quitman Garden Club and purchased with funds donated by club members. Stop in and check the display.

You can visit the library’s online catalog at http://quitman.biblionix.com/catalog and select “What’s Hot” to see all the latest books, audiobooks, and DVDs ready to be checked out. You can even select “Most Popular” to see what items are checked out the most. Also, you can sign up for email or text notifications to remind you when your books are due.

The 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Jam at the Quitman Public Library is Friday, May 10. Acoustical musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 - 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. There will be an open microphone setup for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome.

Notary services are available during regular business hours, but to guarantee an appointment, call 903-763-4191.

Patron cards are for Wood County residents with photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Adult Services

A representative from Workforce Solutions of East Texas is at the Quitman Public Library each first Friday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to assist job-seekers. The next workshop is Friday, May 3. No appointment is necessary.

Virginia Hoffpauir and Rebekah Yeager invite you to free crochet and knitting instruction each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main lobby. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Children’s Services

Story Time, designed for young readers and home-schooled students, meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m. Terri Bennett plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Peoples Telephone is sponsor of this year’s crafts and activities. Upcoming events: April 24, “It’s Okay to be Mad;” May 1, “Monkey Around.”

Friends of the Library

riends of the Quitman Public Library meet Tuesday, May 14 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. The public is invited to join the Friends for a potluck dinner to mark the last meeting of the season. After a summer break, the group will reconvene in September.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.
