Quitman Library Connections

September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, so stop in and see what your Quitman Public Library has to offer. Patron cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification.  A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.

With kids heading back to the classroom, the library is highlighting online resources that are especially helpful for students and teachers. A variety of tools for homework help can be found on our website under the Youth Connection and Reference tabs. Exclusive online resources can be found in the TexShare® Databases accessible within the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org . Call 903-763-4191 for log-in information.  

Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Visit our pages at www.quitmanlibrary.org and www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary.  Wi-Fi is available 24/7.  

Adult Services

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery and is taught by Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring  supplies and join the group for free instruction.

The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, September 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome. This is a free event. For more information, call 903-975-5745.

Children’s Services

QPL Story Time has moved to Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Upcoming Story Time themes: Sept 5 – “A Field Trip!” We will tour the Wood County Courthouse; Sept 12 – “Easy Food For Kids” We will have a cooking class. Sept. 19 – “It’s Shark Week!”; Sept 26 – “Eat Your Vegetables” We will create a vegetable platter. 

Genealogy

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets Monday, September 17 at 7 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. The society gathers for a pre-meeting social dinner at Peralta’s Mexican Restaurant in Quitman at 6 p.m and invites newcomers to fellowship. The society’s Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx. 

Friends of the Library

The Friends meet Tuesday, September 11 at noon for an hour of fellowship and fun. Guest speaker will be the owner of Speakeasy Coffee - Quitman who will share the history of the building on the square and its renovations. Beverly Chamberlain will present the “5-minute-no-spoiler Book Review,” on Sweet Mandarin by Helen Tse. Also, a FOL member will present “What You May Not Know about Me.”
