Quitman Library Connections
The Quitman Public Library staff and volunteers would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! The library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
November is National American Indian Heritage Month, and the library has highlighted this month-long event with a media display designed by Melissa Frosch.
The 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam is Friday, Dec. 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in with acoustical instruments only. Listeners are always welcome at this free event. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.
Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary and visit the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org. Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
Adult Services
Knitting and Crochet class will resume on Thursday, Nov. 29 after the Thanksgiving holiday. Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery.
Adult GED support services will resume on Thursday, Nov. 29, as well. Assistance is offered each Thursday, 4 – 6 p.m. in the library’s public computer area.
Children’s Services
Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m. Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming events: Nov. 21 – No QPL Story Time; Nov. 28 – “Clap Your Hands” with finger painting for craft activity; Dec. 5 – Polar Animals with paper crafts; Dec. 12 – Who is Santa Claus? We will write letters to Santa.
Story Time is designed for young readers and home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Call 903-763-BOOK (2665).
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites everyone to its “FOL Christmas, Cookies, Wassail and Caroling” party on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at noon in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room. This is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.
Genealogy

In the lobby showcase is a collection of military memorabilia to commemorate Veteran’s Day. The items are on loan from Beverly Chamberlain.
