Quitman Public Library staff and volunteers would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2020. That includes Delene Allen, Jessica King, Sheree Moore, Virginia Hoffpauir, Lauren Tucker and Madison Webber.

January is National “Get Organized” Month. Near the front desk is a media display of self-help books filled with ideas to help clear, or at least control, the clutter for the New Year.

Stop by the library to “Meet the Author” on Jan. 14 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in the front lobby. Local author Joe Boyd looks forward to meeting the public as she introduces her newest book, “A Spiritual Awakening: Volume II.”

Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m. Terri Bennett plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming: Jan. 8 “Things I Want to Do in 2020!” The program is designed for young readers and home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Call 903-763-BOOK (2665). Special thanks to Peoples Telephone for funding and sponsorship of this year’s crafts and activities.

The 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam is Friday, Jan. 10 from 6-9 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in with acoustical instruments only. Beginners are welcome to come early to workshop at 5 p.m. Listeners are always welcome at this free event. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites everyone to its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. Special guest will be local author, Joe Boyd, who will discuss her newest release, “A Spiritual Awakening: Volume II.” Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20. Follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx. For more information, contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988.

Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the Quitman Knitter’s Group for free instruction each Thursday 2-4 p.m. in the front lobby area.

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Assistance in reading/writing skills and math is available in the public computer area on Tuesdays and Fridays during library hours.

In the lobby showcase during the month of January is a collection of Snoopy memorabilia on loan from Tonia Nix.

Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
