Along with Valentine’s Day, February marks American Heart Month, a great time to commit to a healthy lifestyle and make small changes that can lead to a lifetime of heart health. The Quitman Public Library is highlighting this with a selection of materials located near the front checkout desk. The library subscribes to nine online health resources that include Medline, Health Source and Consumer Health Complete. Visit our website at www.quitmanlibrary.org to access the TexShare Database for these and more resources.

The 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Circle is Feb. 14 from 6-9 p.m. in the library community room.  Acoustic musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

QPL Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m. Terri Bennett plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. The Story Times for February will be about recognizing Valentine’s Day and discovering things we love. The program is designed for young readers and home-schooled students. Call 903-763-BOOK (2665). Special thanks to Peoples Telephone for funding and sponsorship of this year’s crafts and activities.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites everyone to its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 11at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. Special guest will be local author and columnist John Moore, who will discuss his writing. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library. 

Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17. The group meets at one of the local restaurants for fellowship prior to the meeting, and anyone is welcome to attend. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for details.

Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the Quitman Knitter’s Group for free instruction each Thursday 2-4 p.m. in the library’s front lobby area.

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Assistance in reading/writing skills and math is available in the public computer area on Tuesdays and Fridays during library hours.

Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
