The Quitman Public Library will be closed Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.  Wi-fi will be available in the parking lot area for patrons.

July 2020 is GAO Youth Financial Literacy money camp at the library. This year’s local sponsors are City National Bank-Quitman and Wood County National Bank. Register your children by calling Peggy Lustig at 903-590-0288 or click on the link at www.quitmanlibrary.org on the home page.

The 2020 Summer Reading “Imagine Your Story” program is over, and all of the participants were awarded prizes sponsored by Sonic-Quitman and the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis.

Displayed near the front check out desk is a collection of great summer reads and movies selected by the QPL staff. Also, we have added several new large print novels to the collection by patron request. Stop by and check things out. Also, there are plenty of new e-books aimed for elementary-aged children that are available online by visiting the library’s home page at www.quitmanlibrary.org.

The 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam is Friday, July 10. Acoustic instruments only and listeners are always welcome. For more information, call Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2-4 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will have volunteers on hand throughout the summer to assist with family history research. Call 903-763-4191 to schedule an appointment or contact a member through the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

The library is operating in accordance with current state guidelines with regular hours of Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to wear protective masks and allow others plenty of personal space. All patron areas are regularly disinfected with industrial grade sanitizer.

Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary and visit the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org.
