January is National “Get Organized” Month. Near the front desk is a media display of self-help books filled with ideas to help clear, or at least control, the clutter for your new year. There are also displays throughout the library celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit, Martin Luther King Day and Winnie the Pooh Day.

Knitting and crochet instruction class is Thursday, Jan. 12 from 2-4 p.m. in the lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers and historians to meet on Monday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at the library. Contact Shirley Patrick, 903-312-8451 for meeting confirmation and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

The In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas meets every last Monday in the community room. Join the club Jan. 30. Visit with other photographers, share ideas, and participate in photography-related contests and events. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop. 

Adult GED support services are available. The program is online, register at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available on Wednesdays at noon to assist GED students with reading/writing skills and math.

ETX Underground & Historical Research is all about metal detecting and historical research in Wood and surrounding counties. If interested in digging in the dirt and finding things, join the meeting on first Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet second Tuesdays at noon. The next meeting will be Feb. 14, so come and expect a special treat. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Library cards are available at no cost for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
