Quitman Library Connections
The Quitman Public Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28-29.
During November, the library is celebrating several events and highlighting them with displays of books, movies, audiobooks and eBooks. Near the checkout area is a display arranged by the QPL staff to help you plan for the holidays. Stop by and check it out.
The In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas meets every 4th Monday in the library community room. Visit with other photographers, share ideas and participate in photography-related contests and events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop.
Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the lobby, but the class will not meet Nov. 28. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.
The Friends of the Quitman Public Library will hold a one-hour meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12 at noon. There will be a book review and discussion presented by Sue Reynolds. Light refreshments will be available, and the public is welcome. Contact Susan Lomanto or Rebekah Yeager at 903-763-4191 to learn more about this active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.
Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available in the computer area at the library to assist with reading/writing skills and math.
Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets at the library at 5:30 p.m. on third Mondays. Volunteers are ready to help record a family’s story. For more information, visit the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.
The Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1-4 p.m. in the community room. Bring a couple of board games that teens enjoy, and you are welcome to bring snacks and drinks to share. The Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. Follow the club for updates at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1508907759602212.
Whyte Dove Writers’ Club, a distinctive group of local published authors, meets monthly on second Tuesdays from 6-8:30 p.m.
Looking for a place to hold your next meeting or event? The library offers a spacious community room with the latest technology and a kitchenette. For lease information, contact the front desk at 903-763-4191.
Notary service is generally available at the library during regular business hours, but to guarantee an appointment, call 903-763-2665. Notary fee is $10 per document.
Everyone who lives, works, attends school or owns property or a business in Wood County is entitled to a free library card. Cards are available for those who can provide photo identification and proof of residency, taxpayer status, school enrollment or proof of employment in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
