Quitman municipal clerk educates students about drinking and driving
For Municipal Courts Week, Quitman Municipal Court Clerk and Associate Judge Lauren Maynard teamed up with Quitman ISD to discuss the dangers of underage drinking and driving.
Texas Legislature declared Nov. 5 to 9 as the week to show appreciation for the contributions Texas municipal courts make for local communities. In the Nov. 15 city council meeting, Quitman Mayor David Dobbs read a proclamation to celebrate municipal courts in Quitman from Nov. 5 to 9.
Maynard spoke to Coach Vincent Rapp’s senior government classes about drinking and driving.
“I believe it is important to equip the seniors with this information as they enter college in the upcoming months,” Maynard said.
Quitman Police Department assisted Maynard in teaching the students. QPD officers Jim Rapp and Austin Milbourn helped with the presentation.
She added she enjoyed speaking to the students and hopes to do it again soon.
