Quitman Pilot Club passes out scholarships
The Pilot Club of Quitman recently awarded $14,000 in scholarship to 2020 seniors at Quitman, Alba-Golden and Yantis High Schools.
Quitman ISD recipients were Jordyn Blalock, $1,000; Ben Burroughs, $1,000; River Chaney, $1,000; Shelby Hayes, $2,000; Jentri Jackson, $2,000; James (Jace) Reid, $1,000; Julia Simpkins, $1,000. At Alba-Golden winners were Jacob Dailey, $2,000; Christiana Roberts, $1,000. At Yantis ISD, Jenna Haney received $2,000.
Annually, the Anchor Club at Quitman ISD, sponsored by the Pilot Club, also awards a scholarship to one of its members. The Anchor Club is part of an international youth service organization, sponsored by the Pilots. Cheyenne Williams was the deserving recipient of that $250 scholarship.
Club scholarship chairwoman Susan Ukleja said, “What a joy it was to read the wonderful applications that we received. The hard part was selecting the winners. But each of these students are very deserving and we can’t wait to see where their journeys take them. But wherever it is, we know they will represent East Texas well.”
The Quitman Pilot Club is a non-profit and all-volunteer service organization with the mission of providing education for the prevention of traumatic brain injury and offering services to those suffering from brain related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and autism. Scholarship awards, Bicycle Safety, Project LifeSaver and Special Olympics are just a few of those efforts so important to the health, safety and quality of life for community members.
