Officer Corbin Hanner was dispatched to a residence on Robbins St. for a teenager who had consumed an unknown number of pills with the intent to harm herself. She agreed to be transported to the hospital for treatment. She was released into the custody of her parents and was transported by ambulance without incident.

May 15

Cpl. Austin Milbourn spoke with a resident of Highland Dr. regarding a suspicious person who she believed was watching her. Other residents of the neighborhood were able to corroborate the woman’s story about the man’s ongoing suspicious behaviors which included watching children while they played. Milbourn was able to identify the individual after observing the man in the area. Extra patrol was arranged.

May 16

Officer Linda Williams and Cpl. Milbourn responded to a one-vehicle accident on E. Goode St. An unoccupied pickup was located in a ditch. A man was observed walking away from the scene. The man admitted to the accident stating that the roadway was slippery and he lost control of the truck causing it to slide into the ditch. The man was given a verbal warning for driving without a license and expired registration and a citation for failure to maintain financial responsibility. A wrecker was summoned to remove the vehicle. 

Officer Williams was dispatched to Quitman Animal Clinic in response to a report that a resident from the Wesley House was at the clinic and was refusing to leave. Williams spoke with the elderly woman who was unable to give her date of birth and did not know what year it was. A staff member from the Wesley House was also on scene and stated the woman had left the facility unseen and was possibly suffering from dementia. The woman agreed to be transported to the hospital for evaluation.

May 17

Officers Jim Rapp and Delton Graves were dispatched to the Lane Street Apartments for a disturbance. A man admitted to pushing a woman to get her out of his face during an argument. The woman admitted to slapping the man’s face after he pushed her. Neither party wished to pursue charges. The woman, along with her six-week-old baby, left to spend the night with family.  

Cpl. Milbourn initiated a traffic stop on N. Winnsboro St. for a vehicle with expired registration. The driver, Jerry Dewayne Crawford, 47, of Quitman, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, over one gram, under four grams, capias. A female passenger was also arrested after admitting to being in possession of methamphetamine. Brittany June Wade, 23, of Quitman was charged with possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, over one gram, under four grams. Both were transported to jail without incident. 

May 19

Cpl. Milbourn was notified by UT Health Hospital ER that a juvenile female was at the ER and her parents had left her there. Chilson was informed that the parents had been making excuses as to why they couldn’t stay with the child. The father had gone outside to smoke a cigarette and did not return. Chilson attempted to call both parents but was unable to get in touch with either. The father later returned with the child’s aunt and advised that the aunt was there to sit with the child while awaiting transport to a mental health facility. For the safety of the child, Chilson reported the incident to CPS.

May 24

Officer Corbin Hanner initiated a traffic stop just after 1:30 a.m. after witnessing a vehicle with two defective tail lamps. Upon making contact with the driver, Hanner noted the strong smell of alcoholic beverage. The man admitted to consuming “a couple” of drinks. Field sobriety tests were performed during which the man showed multiple signs of being intoxicated. He refused a request to provide a breath specimen. He was transported to jail where his driver’s license was confiscated. Bobby Carroll Smith, 37, of Pittsburg, was charged with driving while intoxicated, second offense. 

While on routine patrol, Lt. Mike Chilson was flagged down by a citizen in the area of Paul St. and E. Goode St. The citizen was holding the hand of a small child and advised he had found the child on the street. The child was asked if he knew where he lived and he stated that he did. At the same time, a man was discovered walking down Paul St. looking for the child. The child was returned to his residence on Zola St. and was reunited with his mother. Chilson gathered information to be turned over to CPS for follow up.
