July 4

Angie Lynn Flippin, 48, of Maylene, Ala. was arrested and transported to jail following a traffic stop. She gave a name and date of birth that did not return results and had a firearm. A search yielded baggies of what was believed to be methamphetamine. She is charged with possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, more than four grams but less than 200 grams and unlawfully carrying a weapon. 

July 6

Officer Jim Rapp received a phone call from a man who stated he had just run over a speed limit sign behind the courthouse annex building. Contact was made with a city employee who stated the sign had already been removed and straightened but was not going to be replaced. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes.

July 7

Officer Joe Andrade spoke with a female resident of Lloyd St. The woman requested a criminal trespass warning (CTW) be issued to a female whose first name she believed to be Wendy. The woman was advised to call the next time Wendy showed up and an officer would come and issue her a CTW. Andrade was called back to the residence 15 minutes later and was able to issue the warning to Wendy Selbra, 38, of Quitman. 

July 9

Officer Jim Rapp and Lt. John Farmer were dispatched to a residence on Lloyd Ave. for a disturbance in progress. The officers found a man and woman arguing over the man’s perceived disrespect he was receiving from the woman’s eight-year old son. The man admitted to throwing the boy’s Xbox across the room and when the disrespect continued, he went outside and turned off the electric breakers. Both parties advised the disturbance was verbal. Neither party was willing to leave the residence, but the man did agree to turn the breakers back on. CPS was contacted and notified of the incident.

July 10

Officer Jim Rapp was contacted by a resident of N. Winnsboro Street. The woman stated a maroon pickup pulling a black trailer had hit her mailbox knocking it and the pole to the ground. The truck was believed to be a part of a road crew working in the area. The reporting party provided security camera video footage showing the incident. Cpl. Austin Milbourn contacted the man in charge of the highway crew and made him aware of the incident. He readily agreed to contact the victim and make things right with her. An incident report was completed for documentation purposes. 

July 11

Officer Linda Williams and Cpl. Austin Milbourn responded to a residence on N. Winnsboro Street in reference to a burglary. The complainant had found a large number of coins missing from the residence, which belongs to his mother. Throughout the house were numerous signs that someone had been rummaging. The officers recorded information regarding a possible suspect from the reporting party. With the help of employees of a local business, the officers were able to obtain surveillance footage of the man cashing in almost $600 using a coin exchange machine. Lt. John Farmer obtained an arrest warrant. John Scott Kliphan, 33, of Quitman is charged with burglary of a habitation.

July 16

Just after 3 a.m. Officer Joe Andrade conducted a welfare check of a woman on Morris St. at the request of a Wood County deputy. The deputy had been told by the woman’s son that the woman had texted her son saying she was going to cut herself if he did not come home. After making contact with the woman, Andrade was advised that she had only said that in an attempt to get her son to come home. Officer Andrade observed no signs to indicate the woman was a threat to herself or others. A friend of the woman agreed to stay with her to ensure she was okay. 

July 18

Officer Linda Williams responded to UT Health hospital in reference to a report of a stolen wallet. A woman advised she had left her purse on the counter at the nurses’ station and had discovered her red Wonder Woman wallet was missing. Williams recorded information regarding a probable suspect. The woman did advise she was able to cancel her debit and credit cards. 

While on routine patrol, Lt. Mike Chilson initiated a traffic stop after witnessing a vehicle traveling well above the posted speed limit. Chilson detected the smell of raw marijuana prompting him to ask the driver if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. The driver stated there was not, but admitted to smoking marijuana in his vehicle because his wife did not like him to smoke in the house. A search of the vehicle was conducted netting 0.7 grams of suspected THC wax. Dylan Blake Hargrove, 25, of Quitman was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 2, less than 1 gram.
