Quitman Police Report, Aug. 30 - Sept. 18

Following a traffic stop, Arlo Richard Henderson, 37, of Quitman was arrested for an outstanding warrant and charged with theft of a firearm and possession of marijuana less than two ounces. A handgun stolen from Nevada was recovered.

A resident on Jeanell Street reported he had fired a shotgun into the ground in an attempt to scare off a German Shepherd dog that was on his property and acting aggressively. Officers advised the man of the city ordinance which prohibits discharging a firearm inside the city limits. They located the dog, which continued to act aggressively, and tranquilized the dog before capturing it, but it fled into the neighborhood. The dog’s owner, who was out of town, was advised of the city’s ordinance regarding dogs at large. This case will be continued when the owner returns to town. 

Aug. 31

A school employee stated he had been made aware that a student had made threats toward him and his son, and several students had information that the student had a gun and wished to use it on the caller and his son. Case was forwarded to Criminal Investigations.

Sept. 4

An 18-wheeler was reported to have struck a fire hydrant at SH 154 and N. Stephens Street. The truck had left the scene and water was pouring from the ground. The truck was located several miles west of town. An officer contacted the driver who stated he did not feel and was not aware of striking the fire hydrant but did notice he had a flat tire. Damage to the truck’s trailer, tire and rim was photographed. The driver was cited for duty on striking fixture of highway landscaping.

Sept. 5

An employee at Double H Package Store reported that a wallet had been found in the store’s parking lot. The owner retrieved the wallet later in the day. 

Sept. 6

A burglary of a coin operated machine was reported in progress at the Dirty Dawg Car Wash. The car wash’s maintenance worker observed a male and female break into the coin box on the vacuum and gave a description of the pair and vehicle, older model, brown Toyota Land Cruiser. He was unable to get the car’s license plate number. 

Sept. 9

A vehicle was reported parked on the side of the highway, and the driver appeared to be passed out. The driver stated he was waiting on a girl so he could drive her to Fort Worth. The driver did not have a driver’s license or proof of liability insurance. Vicente Munos, 24, of Fort Worth, was arrested for no driver’s license and no insurance. His vehicle was towed. 

A man in the area of Wells Road and FM 778 had been reported lying in the middle of the road and was lying in a ditch. The man stumbled into the roadway and toward the patrol vehicle. He admitted he was “a little buzzed” and was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. Arne Arthur Oliver, 39, of Quitman, was arrested and charged with public intoxication. 

Sept. 13

Christi Ann McFarlin, 47, of Grand Saline was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated with open container following a traffic stop.

Sept. 14

James Christopher Lui, 32, of Tyler was arrested for driving while intoxicated after striking a police vehicle and two parked cars near Lane and North Main.

Sept. 17

A welfare concern was referred to Adult Protective Services after an elderly resident was found to have multiple wounds requiring medical attention.

Sept. 18

A complainant advised she had purchased a property on Clark Street that included two vehicles, and one of the vehicles was missing and she believed her adopted son had taken it. The officer learned from another family member that three window unit air conditioners and a refrigerator were missing as well. This case has been forwarded for investigation.
