Quitman Rotary Club honors January Students of the Month

The Quitman Rotary Club honored Quitman High School students with their Student of the Month designation. January students were Ashley Alexander and Ashton Midkiff.

Alexander is the daughter of Deana and Dwayne Alexander. She has been active at QHS in Anchor Club, Student Council, National Honor Society and Yearbook. Alexander is also a member of the concert and marching band and is part of the job-shadowing at local healthcare facilities.

She plans to go to Abilene Christian University to major in business management while also taking pre-med courses hoping to become a dermatologist.

Midkiff is an active member of Student Council, NHS and Anchor Club. He is heavily involved in the QHS theater program taking part in multiple musicals and competing in one-act play competition. Midkiff has also competed at the regional level in UIL in accounting and current events. He is the copy editor of the QHS yearbook.

Midkiff plans to attend Texas A&M University after graduation from QHS to study civil engineering. It is his hope to eventually use all he learns to aid in improving quality of life in rural and urban settings. Midkiff is the son of Mike and Marianne Midkiff.

November students honored were Elise Woodruff and Garrett Taylor. At QHS, Woodruff participates in one-act play competition, FFA, academic UIL, NHS, Anchor Club and Student Congress. She also is part of the state champion 4H Entomology Team.

Woodruff plans to attend Texas A&M University and be a telecommunications major. In her junior year she hopes to get into the strategic communications program which would allow her to be a telecommunications director in the future. She is the daughter of Deborah Woodruff and Rob Woodruff.

Taylor is the son of Greg Taylor and Jani Taylor. Taylor has been active in athletics at QHS all four years of high school. He was first team all district in basketball last year and a first team football player this past season. He has also advanced beyond the district level in the long jump and high jump in track season the past two years. An injury in the final football game of the season this year has kept him from playing basketball this season.

Taylor made the District 7-3A DI Academic All District team and was named Honorable Mention Academic All State by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
