Quitman sweeps district cross country

The Quitman cross country teams scored a clean sweep at the district cross-country meet Saturday at Northeast Texas Community College. The Bulldog and Lady Bulldog teams will next compete on Monday, Oct. 25 at in the regional meet at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas.

Quitman sweeps district cross country

The Quitman cross country teams scored a clean sweep at the district cross-country meet Saturday at Northeast Texas Community College. The Bulldog and Lady Bulldog teams will next compete on Monday, Oct. 25 at in the regional meet at the Jesse Owens Memorial Athletic Complex in Dallas.

Mineola cross country will also be well represented at regionals. The Lady Jackets registered a second-place finish, while the boys team finished in third. The top three teams advanced from district to regionals. 

The Lady Bulldogs victory was paced by freshman Katie Degorostiza who finished with the fastest time (13:02). Teammate Madyson Pence clocked 13:16 to claim third. 

Mineola’s Olivia Hughes claimed the second fastest time with a 13:11, while fellow Lady Jacket Shylah Kratzmeyer also finished in the top ten with a time of 14:05.

In the boys division, Quitman was paced by third place finisher Brandon Jimenez (18:36) and eighth place finisher Dakota Jimenez (19:28). Omar Perez recorded the fastest time for Mineola (19:46).

The qualification for regional competition in the team sport of cross country running is a significant achievement.

Representing Quitman in Dallas will be Amanda Bautista, Kendall Davis, Katie Degorostiza, Addison Marcee, Madyson Pence, Bonnie VanderShaff, McKenna Wood, Noah Emmans, Saul Flores, Brandon Jimenez, Dakota Jimenez, Diego Osornia and Weston Pence.  

Wearing the orange and white of Mineola at the Jesse Owens Complex will be Olivia Hughes, Raquel Hughes, Shylah Kratzmeyer, Kapri Riley, Keilee Riley, Riley Weekly, Hannah Zoch, Cris Alejo, Omar Perez, Alex Reyes, Max Ripley, Fernal Ventura, Alexis Villeda and Tristan Wells.
