Mineola Library Notes
Library programs are back in session. We had a great time on Tuesday with our After School groups. Mrs. Pam made duct tape water bottle holders while Mz Mary and her group drew cats based on the role of a die. Wednesday’s Preschool Story Time stayed with the cat theme and we listened to two stories about cats and then completed an art project.
Many thank yous to Joyce Williams for her program at the Friends of the Library meeting. We learned about little facts of Mineola history and about upcoming projects revolving around the railroad. She presented the library with a copy of R. C. Hickman’s book : “Behold the people: R.C. Hickman’s photographs of Black Dallas, 1949-1961” and from the Junior Historians a copy of the picture used by Earl Aldredge to draw the picture of Mineola’s interlocking tower.
We will be closing early on Sept. 17. We have a celebration to attend and all the staff wants to go. Thank you for allowing us this opportunity.
New this month to the programs offered at Mineola Memorial Library is the Work from Home Wednesdays. This will be the third Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. This month it will be Sept. 21. Various home businesses will have the opportunity to showcase their products and tell interested audiences about them.
Also try Fun Fitness Fridays at 8:45 a.m. beginning Sept. 23. Most work-outs are about 30 minutes and follow the Beach Body programs beginning with Country Heat. Meet with Mrs. Pam in the Meredith Room, sign a release, and have a great time! There will be a give-away at the very first meeting.
We have welcomed a Library Information Sciences student. She will be volunteering with us on Fridays and Saturdays as part of her path to this degree. Come by and say hello to her.
The Library Book Sale will be on Saturdayat the Annex beginning at 9 a.m. Great deals on second-hand books and the proceeds benefit the library.
We have a number of databases through the TexShare program. These are information resources for things such as Do-It-Yourself projects, car repair, and studies for various school subjects. We’d be happy to show you how to access these if you just ask at the front desk.
We are now a demonstration site for the Talking Books device. You may view it in the display case at the front of the library. We would love to show you how it works. It is a service provided through the State Library and all you need to do is to complete an application. Let us tell you more about this.
