It was a roller coaster ride of emotions and volleyball action at Rains Friday afternoon. When the smoke cleared, the Lady Bulldogs lost in five sets to the Lady ‘Cats 25-18, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18, 6-15. The loss puts Quitman at 2-1 in District 12-3A play with road trips to Alba-Golden Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m. and Edgewood Saturday at 11 a.m.

When the smoke cleared, the Lady Bulldogs lost in five sets to the Lady ‘Cats 25-18, 24-26, 25-14, 25-18, 6-15. The loss puts Quitman at 2-1 in District 12-3A play with road trips to Alba-Golden Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m. and Edgewood Saturday at 11 a.m.

Quitman’s Lady Bulldogs came out strong in the first set at Rains claiming a 25-18 win followed by a tough close 24-26 set two. Quitman came back with a dominating performance at the net in set three for a 25-14 win, but lost the final two sets.  

“We did not get the outcome we wanted, but I saw a lot of good hustle in these girls. I believe we will regroup and play hard at Alba-Golden. It was a tough loss,” Coach Ashlee Lingo said.

Julia Simpkins was outstanding from her outside hitter spot where she had 10 kills for the evening. Ava Burroughs added eight kills along with four digs and four blocks. Shelby Hayes had 27 assists and 10 digs while Jentri Jackson added 11 digs and seven kills. Maddy Whitehurst had seven digs, four kills, an ace and two blocks with Lucy Brannon hustling for 15 digs, two kills and a pair of assists.
