Rains hammers Lady Jackets 8-0
Little went wrong for the Rains Lady Wildcats as they shut out the host Mineola Lady Jackets 8-0 on March 12. Rains combined for 12 hits and hammered the ball hard the whole game.
Ladycat pitcher Chanlee Oakes gave up just four hits through seven complete innings. The Yellowjackets could not get started against Oakes. Their best opportunity came in the bottom of the fifth, when a Kaitlyn Burrell single was followed up by a double from Alyssa Lankford. Mineola could not capitalize and left the runners stranded. It was the best Mineola scoring opportunity of the night.
Oakes set the Yellowjackets down in order in the first, second, fourth and seventh innings during a textbook performance.
Rains put together three concise scoring sequences. They scored three runs in the first behind a lead-off single and two doubles. In the third they added three more, which featured a two-run homerun shot by catcher Catrin Hoffman. Finally, combining four hits in the top of the fourth, Rains tallied two more runs. On the night, eight Rains hitters recorded at least one base hit. Scott Delozier’s team looked to be in mid-season form.
