Gas prices questioned
Ever wonder why gas prices in front of Brookshire's is higher than the one in Mineola? I have, so I called the lady that sets the prices over in Tyler. She said that they are only competitive within a six mile radius. I explained to her that many from Quitman were going to Mineola to purchase their gas due to the lower price and would also buy their groceries or eat out while there which decreases our city tax dollars. I asked if they would match the price they had in Mineola in order to let citizens shop locally. Obviously after several months they do not plan on being competitive in Quitman with the Mineola market. The manager at our local grocery store does not have any control of the gas prices. Therefore
I would encourage citizens to continue shopping our local grocery store but do not buy gas from the station located within its parking lot. There are other gas stations in town so please use them to keep our tax dollars here. This will send a clear message that we want to shop local but refuse to pay 9-24 cents per gallon more than is being charge to Mineola residents.
