Robert Brooke “Buddy” Wilbourn, 1931-2020

Robert Brooke “Buddy” Wilbourn, 88, of Quitman passed away on Feb. 1, 2020. Buddy is survived by his wife of 58 years,  Annette; sister, Lucy Waddell and husband Walter Waddell of Columbia, S.C.; daughter, Brooke Wilbourn and fiance’ Curt Schoettle of New Braunfels; daughter, Stacie Whitaker and husband Lynn Whitaker of Gladewater; grandson, Coleton Brooke Whitaker of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Autumn Softley and husband Chris Softley; great-grandchildren, Tatum, Tyler and Trey Softley of Lubbock; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Buddy was a loving father, husband, PawPaw and friend. 

Buddy served in the US Air Force and graduated from Louisiana State University before beginning his lifetime career as a petroleum engineer for Transcontinental Gas Pipeline. After retirement, Buddy and Annette left the city life in Houston to settle in Quitman. 

A man of few words, Buddy had a knack for making people laugh and smile. Even in hard times, he continued to find something funny to say. Buddy lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing and all sports, but especially had a passion for his alma mater, the LSU Tigers. Those closest to him shared a life of adventure and many fond memories.
