Mineola got a stellar pitching performance from Aaron Stanford who struck out 12 and gave up just four hits as the Yellowjackets took championship honors at the annual Quitman Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament Friday night in a 4-1 win over Mt. Vernon.

The Jackets started the tournament Thursday blasting Big Sandy 15-5 followed by a 9-1 romp over Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill in the semi-final game early Friday.

Against Mt. Vernon, Mineola got single runs in the third and fourth innings while tacking on two more in the fifth. The Jackets hit the ball well throughout the tournament and in the championship game every starter had a least one hit. Frankie Meason and Jeremiah Crawford each posted 2-3 nights at the plate to lead the offense.

In the 9-1 win over Chapel Hill, Brayden Stehman tossed a sparkling two-hitter while striking out seven in a five-inning affair. Mineola led 8-1 after four innings and added another run in the fifth. Stanford and Carty Helm each posted a pair of hits with Stehman slugging a double to help his own cause. Also getting base hits for Mineola were Crawford, Meason, Jacob Ford and Noah Sneed.

In the opening 15-5 win over Big Sandy, Crawford and Cameron Davis combined to give up just two hits while striking out seven Wildcat batters. Davis also had a 3-3 night at the plate with a double and a pair of singles. Crawford and Sneed each banged out two hits while Stanford, Helm, Ford, Meason and Sneed each added singles.

The Jackets will next see action in the Van tournament Thursday through Saturday. They begin district March 24 in Eustace.
