Ronald Rimbey, 1937-2018
Memorial services for Ronald Warren Rimbey, 81, Emory, were Sunday, Jan. 6 at Emory Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Piles officiating. Interment was at The Church of St. Dustan, Mineola, by Canon Morris.
He was passed away at home wishes on December 13, 2018.
Mr. Rimbey was born June 1, 1937, in Jacksonville, Ill., to the late Jacob Raymond Rimbey and Dorothy Virginia Smith Rimbey. He worked as a draftsman for General Dynamics in Fort Worth and retired from Rockwell International Corp after 35 years as a controller and director of major contracts, negotiated with the government very successfully, and was involved in developing many patents, which became our modern-day GPS.
Ron and Linda were lifetime members of HAMM (Historical Aviation Memorial Museum), served on the Rains County ARB board and was a vestry member of The Church of St. Dustan along with Lee Spence, who co-sponsored the recommendation of the columbarium, where he and his wife will be interred.
Ronald absolutely loved airplanes! He was a “frustrated non-pilot,” but was able to co-pilot the company plane for Rockwell International Corp. on several occasions. He was the go to guy for HAMM museum in Tyler to move all of the airplanes that are displayed. He also loved 440 automobile engines.
He was described by many as a good person, loving, caring, fantastic guy, and a friend who will be missed by his friends and family.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Linda Rimbey of Emory; his five children: Courtney, Mike, Chris, Todd and Tiffany; two brothers, Jim Rimbey and John Rimbey; and nine grandchildren.
