Quitman Police Deptment to host open house
On Thursday, April 17, the Quitman Police Department will host an open house to allow the community to take tours of their new headquarters, located at 401 South Main Street.
The building, which once housed the Village Shop (a notable boutique that serviced Quitman for decades), has been converted into QPD's new home. The department moved from its original location on Goode Street when the Main Street building became available last summer, due to the increased amount of space.
In addition to housing the department itself, the new headquarters is also home to Quitman's Police Training Academy. The two-story building offered plenty of room to relocate the academy, which was previously housed within the Quitman Chamber of Commerce's office at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park.
The public is invited to tour the new headquarters on April 17, from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. QPD officers will be present to greet and guide you through the facility, and refreshments will also be provided.
