Shadie Bell Stephens Jones

QUITMAN-Service for Shadie Jones, 81 of Quitman was held Saturday, September 29 at First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m.

Mrs. Jones died September 19, 2018. She was born July 13, 1937 to Lila Jones and James Stephens in Quitman.

She attended the Quitman Colored School, later known as W.B. Clark School, and was class Valedictorian in 1954. She attended Mineola General Hospital School of Vocational Nursing, class of 1975-76 and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She retired from nursing in 1998. She was a member of Brock’s Chapel United Methodist Church and affiliated with Johnson Chapel UMC. She became a member of the Charity Singers of Mineola in 2011.

Survivors include husband, Wilford Jones; sister, Alestine Thompson, Dallas; children, Portia Jones, Mineola, Hope Brinkley, Mineola, Stephen Jones, Wylie, Tx, Grayling Jones, Mineola, Johana Cooper, Plano, Cathleen Spurlock, Tyler, Christopher Johnson, Tyler, Bradley Johnson, Mineola, Susan Johnson, Mineola, Sally Rojas, Mineola; 40 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and a number of relatives and friends.
