Funeral service for Sharon Ann “Sherry” Adkins, 67, of Quitman, was Wednesday, Nov. 21 at Lowe Funeral Home with Tara Dyson officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Sherry passed away Monday afternoon, November 19, 2018, at her home.

Sherry Adkins was born Jan. 19, 1951, in Mt. Pleasant. She lived in Quitman all of her life. In 1974 she married Dugan Adkins, and the two were married a little over 20 years at the time of his passing.

Sherry was a registered nurse and started and finished her career in Quitman. Helping and doing things for others and taking care of people was her passion. She worked at the hospital in Quitman and the Heritage Nursing Home for many years. When she wasn’t caring for others, she enjoyed gardening and canning, and she loved chickens, pigs, and dogs.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Ann Harrell; husband, Dugan Adkins; brother, Darryl Harrell; step son, Thomas Adkins; and grandparents, Russel and Zettie Denman.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Daniel Adkins of Quitman and Clint Adkins of Ada, Oklahoma; three sisters, Fae Johnson of Quitman, Mae Bowden of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, and Debbie Ayers of Dover, Ark.; and three step-daughters, multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.

Serving as pallbearers were James Wheeler, Joe Doyle Reynolds, Marion Stanberry, Norman Hicks, George Cathey, and Austin Adkins.
