July 13

Deputy Tucker George and Lt. Robert Holland were dispatched to FM 1799 just after midnight in reference to an assault. There they met with a couple and their son. The couple stated that approximately two hours earlier their son had became aggravated when confronted about his drug use. The woman stated she was pushed and shoved numerous times. The couple stated they wished to pursue charges against their son. The son was located in his bedroom and did not attempt to resist of flee from the deputies. Marshall Nathan Freeman, 32, Mineola, was arrested and transported to jail. He is charged with assault by contact.

July 13

Deputy Tucker George and Lt. Robert Holland were dispatched to FM 1799 just after midnight in reference to an assault. There they met with a couple and their son. Deputy Melissa Pollard was dispatched to a structure fire on Hwy 11. Pollard arrived to find an old shaving mill full of junk completely destroyed by fire. The electric company was notified of the fire and upon arrival they removed a pair of jumper cables from an electrical box which were being used to illegally obtain electricity. The electrical box was registered to a man who was renting the mobile home next to the burned structure. This case has been forwarded to the county fire marshal.

Sgt. Donivan South was dispatched to Hwy 80 in the Mineola area for a theft report. The complainant stated a 6’ homemade utility trailer, valued at $800, was missing from the property. The trailer was last seen at the location at 8:00 AM. The man also advised he was not the owner of the trailer, but had borrowed it to haul some building materials. This case has been forwarded to CID or assignment and continued investigation.

July 14

Deputy Dustin Fenlaw was dispatched to Ozarka-owned property CR 3540 in the Hawkins area for a burglary of a building. An employee advised that sometime in the past two days unknown person(s) had come onto the property and broken into three different outbuildings. Property was removed from each one of the buildings. Two 4-wheelers were missing from the first building. They are described as green Yamaha Grizzly 660’s, valued at $3,400 each. A turkey fryer, valued at $100 was missing from the second outbuilding. The door of the third building had been pried open. A portable generator, thermal arc welder and miscellaneous hand and power tools were missing from inside. A 2008 Argo Frontier was also missing. The value of the property missing from the third building is $11,500. The case was forwarded to CID for continued investigation.

Sgt. Donivan South and Deputy Heather Bailey recovered a 2006 Chevrolet 2500 4x4 pickup at White Oak Shores in the Yantis area. The truck was reported stolen out of McKinney. The deputies spoke with a man at the location who stated he had been in possession of the pickup for the past six years. The man further advised the pickup had been brought to his mechanic shop located in the metroplex. According to the man, the subjects who dropped off the pickup had not returned any of his phone calls regarding payment for repairs and he had invested over $7,000 in the truck. A wrecker service was summoned to transport the pickup to the Sheriff’s Office impound.

July 15

Deputy Jeremy Ragsdale took a report of an assault which occurred at Winnsboro Livestock. A woman reported that her ex-husband shoved her when she reached for their child. The woman stated that she was not injured but the shove did cause her discomfort. The woman stated she wished only for an incident report at that time but later called to state she had been advised by her attorney to pursue charges. The case was forwarded to CID for further disposition.

Deputy Josh Davis initiated a traffic stop in the Mineola area after witnessing a pickup being operated without a front license plate. Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Davis smelled what he believed to be an alcoholic beverage. The passenger was determined to be drinking from a cup that contained the suspected alcohol. A consensual search of the vehicle produced suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Katy Iwana Grant, 49, Grand Saline, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1, less than on gram. She was transported to jail without incident.

July 16

Deputy Brandie Cunningham was dispatched to a structure fire on FM 779 in the Golden area. Upon arrival, Cunningham spoke with a man who stated he was currently residing in the home as was his mother who was away at the time the fire began. The man advised he had been smoking on the back porch and had been back inside the residence for a short time before smelling smoke. Deputy Cunningham was advised by the fire department that the blaze had rendered the home unsafe to live in. The home was taped off and secured by the fire department. The case has been forwarded to the county’s fire marshal for investigation.

Shortly before 6:00 AM, Sgt. James Hildebrand observed a man and woman walking along FM 515. Having earlier been made aware that a suicidal male had left the Winnsboro emergency room against medical advice and was possibly in danger of dying, Hildebrand detained the couple. After a brief conversation with the man, Sgt. Hildebrand placed him in protective custody so that he could be transported to a hospital for evaluation. As he was leaving, the female made a verbal threat against her own life. She was taken into custody for a transportation code violation (use of sidewalk). Winnsboro PD officers assisted with taking the woman into custody. Their encounter with her resulted in additional charges of fail to identify and resisting arrest, search or transport. Sara Beth Searl, 35, Mt. Vernon, was transported to jail without further incident.

Deputy Justin Bowring initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of SH 154 and FM 515 after observing a vehicle being operated with a registration which expired in 2014. The driver of the vehicle stated he had just purchased the 4-door Toyota car and produced a bill of sale as proof. A check of the car’s license plate revealed that the plate belonged on a 1997 Ford Explorer. The man claimed the vehicle was that way when he purchased it. A check of the man’s driver’s license showed the license to have expired in February of 2015. The man was also unable to produce proof of insurance. Colt Gerald Freudiger, 26, Brasher, was arrested and transported to jail. He is charged with failure to maintain financial responsibility. He was issued a citation for the expired driver’s license and the fictitious license plate. A wrecker service was summoned for the car.

Deputies Steven Fields and Josh Davis responded to a report of a reckless driver traveling on FM 14 in the Hawkins area. Deputy Fields located the car and witnessed it fail to stop at a stop sign and then travel westbound in the eastbound lane. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver. According to Deputy Fields’ report, the driver smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, was swaying while on his feet and had slurred speech. Curtis Wayne Peek, 44, Hawkins, was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of greater than 0.15%. He was transported to jail without further incident. This case has been submitted to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution.

July 17

Deputy Tucker George took a report of burglary of a habitation from a complainant on CR 1602. The complainant stated the property is a vacation cabin and he had been away from the residence since July 5. The complainant had arrived to discover a large window air conditioning unit was missing from the living room window. The cabin’s front door was closed, but unlocked. No damage was noted to the front or back door leading to the belief that the window was the point of entry. Several items were missing from inside the cabin including a TV, several rods and reels, a tool bag with miscellaneous tools and more. The total value of the missing property is $1,530. This case has been forwarded for assignment and investigation.

July 18

Sgt. Josh O’Grady was able to facilitate the return of some property after he was contacted by a man who stated he had been unable to retrieve a 16’ double axle trailer and a hot tub which he had loaned to a friend. The friend had since been incarcerated and left the property at a third party’s residence. The third party was refusing to release the property. Sgt. O’Grady spoke with the third party and arranged for the man to pick up the trailer and hot tub.

July 19

Lt. Robert Holland and Deputy Dustin Fenlaw responded to Holly Lake Ranch in response to a report that an assault had occurred. Speaking with the female victim, the deputies learned the suspect, the woman’s fiancé, had broken her cell phone and grabbed her arm, twisting both her arm and her wrist. The suspect had left the area but was later located and arrested for assault causing bodily injury. Danny Gene Blankenship, 32, Mabank, was transported to jail but not without incident. He continually argued and cussed during the transport and once he arrived at the jail, refused to get out of the car or comply with any commands. He also threatened Lt. Holland with bodily harm. He was eventually placed in a body restraint device and placed in a cell.

Deputy Dustin Fenlaw was dispatched to the Winnsboro emergency room in reference to an assault which reportedly occurred at a residence on CR 1970 in the Yantis area. The female victim had several injuries, consisting of lacerations to her nose, left hand and left leg. The victim stated she was pushed down by her significant other. The woman gave contradictory information and first stated she wished to pursue charges but later stated she did not. This case has been forwarded to CID for warrant review.

Deputy Aaron Warren took a report of burglary of a building from a complainant on CR 3859. The man reported that a shed on his property had been broken into and several items were missing from inside. The missing property includes electric hedge trimmers, ratchets and sockets, air compressor and shot gun shells. Other more valuable items in the area were not tampered with. This case remains under active investigation.

Deputy Melissa Pollard was dispatched to FM 2869 in the Winnsboro area in reference to a burglary of a building. A complainant reported that he had discovered his Yamaha Grizzly, valued at $7,800 missing from the garage area of a building on the property. Also missing was a log splitter, valued at $1,000. As Deputy Pollard left the property and traveled west on CR 4596, she observed a small roadway leading to the south. Pollard drove down the road and observed two log splitters in the wooded area north of the path. Deputy Pollard made contact with the complainant and requested he come to the location to determine if the log splitter was his. Once he arrived, he was able to positively identify one of the log splitters as being his. Investigators were notified to come to the scene and while awaiting their arrival, Deputy Pollard and the complainant checked the area for additional stolen property. The Grizzly ATV was located approximately one-quarter of a mile away. The complainant’s property was released to him at the scene. Additional property was recovered and transported to the Sheriff’s Office impound lot where investigators will attempt to determine its rightful owner.

Deputy Aaron Warren took a theft report from an Alba man who stated an ice chest had been taken from the bed of his work truck. The cooler is described as being tan in color and resembling a Yeti brand, however it is made by IceBin. The value of the cooler is $213. This case is now in the hands of investigators.
