Quitman students celebrate National FFA Week
The Quitman Future Farmers of America Chapter celebrated National FFA Week from Feb. 15-22. More than half a million members participated in National FFA Week activities at local, state and national levels.
The celebration was designated as National FFA Week in 1947, the week of George Washington's birthday. It runs from Saturday to Saturday, and gives members an opportunity to educate the public about agriculture.
The Quitman chapter celebrated National FFA Week by participating in several activities. Quitman FFA officers came up with a trivia game for the students of QHS to play by answering questions about agriculture. They cooked breakfast for teachers and staff. They also participated in the county-wide "Ag Olympics."
In honor of the winter Olympics, the Quitman chapter invited all the chapters of Wood County to participate in a variety of games and a hamburger cookout. The officers also went to the elementary and taught the third graders how to make butter and line dance, along with telling the kids about the fun and benefits of being in FFA when they get older.
