Quitman Youth Foundation (QYF) is having two more sign-up dates for youth baseball and softball teams. They will be the next two Wednesdays, February 17 and 24 at the Nutrition Center Building located next to the QYF ball fields from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Parents and/or legal guardian must be present when their child is signed-up. The sign-up fee is $75 for one player per family, $115 for two players, and $140 for three or more players per family. You can also sign-up for three and four year old Developmental T-Ball League at those same times and location. The fee for this league is $40 per child. There will be a community blood drive at Wood County Electric Cooperative Friday, February 19, 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Carter BloodCare mobile unit will be located in the WDEC parking lot along Highway 37 in Quitman. For information or questions, call 903-763-2203 ext. 226.
The Wood County Democrat Club will meet Thursday, February 25, at 6 p.m. in JOY Hall of First United Methodist Church Quitman. Covered dish meal begins at 6 p.m. followed by a program and business meeting at 6:30 p.m. for more information, call Chuck Denson at 903-383-7036 or go to the website at . Meetings are generally held the fourth Thursday of each month.
The Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club is continuing its United States flag program.
You can get a flag (or flags) for your business and/ or home for $35 per year. The Kiwanis will place the flags at your home of business and take them down. Show your patriotism while helping the local Kiwanis fund programs for local children. To get your subscription, call or text Joanne Wisdom at 903-394- 8941.
Filing for a place on the ballot for the Quitman Independent School District Board of Trustees and Quitman City Council has started and ends February 19. Filing applications may be picked up at the QISD administrative offices located at 1201 E. Goode Street just east of the high school for school board and at city hall, 401 East Goode Street for city council.
