Sorenson named principal at Mineola High School
Mike Sorenson, the dean of staff and students at Mineola High School, has been named campus principal.
Sorenson replaces David Sauer, who was recently promoted to assistant superinendent.
“Mr. Sorenson is a man of character, passion and tremendous leadership capacity (who) will serve our students, staff and community well into the future,” said Superintendent Cody Mize.
“Even though I started my college career pursuing another field, my heart always knew that working with kids through teaching and coaching was what I was meant to do,” Sorenson said. “Finally, in the spring semester of my senior year in college, I changed my major to education and spent another year completing the requirements for teaching. I have never regretted that decision. I could not be more excited to be named the principal of Mineola High School.”
He has been in the field of education for 38 years and has a bachelor’s degree in science from Wayland Baptist University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Lamar University. He worked in the classroom teaching earth science, PE and biology and has served as an athletic director in several districts and as an administrator at Mineola Middle School and Mineola High School.
Sorenson has been with the district 11 years. His wife, Rene’, is a first grade teacher at Mineola Primary School and they have three sons and three grandchildren.
Youngest son, Cameron, is a graduate of Mineola High School and will be a senior at Southern Arkansas University and is studying physics and engineering.
