Sponsors needed for Arboretum’s July 20 5K and Fun Run
Athletes of all ages and those who enjoy the outdoors are invited to mark their calendars for the Miss Ima 5K and Fun Run, benefitting the Wood County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
Sponsors for the July 20 family friendly event are still needed at all levels, which range from $100 for bronze, $200 silver, $300 gold and $500 platinum.
Entities signing on as a silver level sponsor and above can receive their business logo printed on the backs of racing T-shirts, plus other benefits, but donations need to be received by Wednesday, June 19. The event starts and ends at the Arboretum, 175 Governor Hogg Pkwy.
“This event celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Stinson House and Miss Ima Hogg, who was instrumental in preserving the house her grandfather built,” said Deanna Caldwell, president of Friends of the Arboretum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that oversees the grounds. “The Arboretum is proud to be a caretaker and preserve this piece of Wood County history.”
The Wood County Industrial Commission, Jalapeno Tree, Republican Women of Wood County, G&S Sales, Quitman Chamber of Commerce, Texas Farm Bureau Insurance, Monica Cook State Farm Insurance, Quitman Animal Clinic, Strazincky Insurance Agency, First National Bank, Walmart (Mineola), Wood County Electric Cooperative and Mineola Antique Fair are among the first to sign up as sponsors.
Amounts are tax deductible up to the amount allowed by federal law and receipts will be provided. For more details on the various sponsor levels and benefits, call 430-235-5461 or email woodcountyarbo@gmail.com.
Race day check in starts at 7:45 a.m. for the half-mile Kids Fun Run and Walk. Entry fees for the fun run, designed for young athletes ages 10 and younger, are $5 per person.
Older children and adults are eligible to test their skills in the 5K Run/Walk and a chance at winning a $50 prize. Check in for that race begins at 8 a.m. and there is a $25 fee to enter.
Medals and refreshments will be given to participants of each race. To register online, visit www.woodcountyarbo.org. Checks are accepted and should be made payable to the Friends of the Arboretum, Inc. The mailing address is Friends of the Arboretum, Inc., P. O. Box 1395, Quitman TX 75783.
The 23-acre arboretum is home not only to the 1869 Stinson House, but also a host of other attractions, including a walking trail, gazebo, sensory garden and special planting areas for shade loving species and water conservation. Timed tours of the home will be scheduled on race day.
Proceeds benefit the arboretum and its various programs, such as the annual Valentine’s Dinner and Nature University. To learn more about the Arboretum, plus special events, tribute opportunities, classes, reservations and projects, visit www.woodcountyarbo.org or email woodcountyarbo@gmail.com.
