Spring primary filing deadline nears
The field for Wood County sheriff continues to get more crowded, and one commissioner seat will be contested.
Callie Lawrence has joined Kelly Cole, James Schaffner and incumbent Tom Castloo for sheriff in the March 3 Republican primary.
Keith Gilbreath has filed to challenge Prec. 1 Commissioner Virgil Holland.
Other contested races include Angela Albers and Jodi Cox for district attorney, Jeff Fletcher and Brad McCampbell for district judge and Gary Dixon and John McQueen for Prec. 3 constable.
Two Democrats have filed to face Republican incumbents representing Wood County in the November general election U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden is seeking a second term. Carolyn Salter of Palestine is seeking the Democratic nomination.
State Board of Education member Kevin Ellis has filed for reelection, and Brenda Davis of Honey Grove has filed as a Democrat.
Republicans State Rep. Cole Hefner and State Sen. Bryan Hughes are unopposed for reelection.
Filing deadline is Dec. 9.
Other incumbents seeking reelection include Prec. 1 Constable Steve Bowser, Prec. 2 Constable Kelly Smith, County tax assessor-collector Carol Taylor and Commissioner Prec. 3 Mike Simmons.
Chase Glover is the lone candidate for constable Prec. 4.
