State-ranked Eustace sweeps Mineola
The Mineola Lady Jackets fell to the state-ranked Lady Bulldog side of Eustace Friday in straight sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-14).
After battling to get in the groove in the opening set, the Lady Jackets climbed back through some inspired play and took a 15-10 lead. Two service aces by Kaitlyn McMahon, kills by Canyon Redding and Callie Black and a block by Journie Wilson fueled the Lady Jacket surge.
The first set tightened and Mineola held a 22-21 edge. Eustace carried the next three points with some well-placed offensive strikes to take the set.
Had those three points fallen to Mineola, the set and the match may have played out as a major upset of the fourth-ranked Lady Bulldogs. As it was, however, a depleted Mineola side could never recapture the momentum and went down in straight sets.
The next opportunity to see the Lady Jackets at home will be Friday as they challenge Malakoff. Varsity play begins at 4:30 p.m.
