April is here and with it maybe showers and then May flowers. If it does get rainy, we have an ample supply of books, audio books, and movies to help pass the time.

First graders from Mineola Primary School are coming to visit this month. They will get to tour the library and find out what all we have to offer.

Friends of the Library are meeting on April 6 at 1 p.m. with guest speaker Tina Davis of Kindness Kottage. Come and find out about this local, charitable organization and what they do in the community. Please, bring a donation for Kindness Kottage.

We should be getting started on our new lighting soon. We are getting a “sample” light to review its brightness and how it fits our needs. This project will take a little while as we have lots of lights.

We received a donation of paintings by local artist Billie Jean Henry. It is a collection titled “Angels All Around.” We have them hanging in the children’s area, the young adult area, and adult fiction. They are quite lovely and are done with mixed media. Stop by and see what we have had the pleasure to receive.

This month’s book club at the library will meet a week early on April 13 at 6 p.m. The book finally selected is “The Hair of Harold Roux” by Thomas D. Williams. There was a discussion as to which of two books would be read for April and that decision was not made in time for the last column. Join this group for a fun discussion of the book being read, books read in the past, and various subjects as they relate to the books we have read.

Our regular programming continues through the month of April: afterschool on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. for students in kindergarten through high school; Pre School Story Time on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m.; American Girls Historical Reading Club second Saturday (April 8) for girls and their moms with registration required monthly to provide adequate supplies; Computer Q & A the third Saturday (April 15) at 9:30 a.m.; and Homeschool Heroes the first Friday (April 7) at 1 p.m.

The Mineola Memorial Library received memorial donations for Bessie Rae Wilson by the Mineola Memorial Library Board and for Howard T. Thompson by Sandra Oyler.

The Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations are tax deductible.
