Lady Bulldogs close out basketball season with loss at Winnsboro
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs ended their basketball season last Tuesday with a 64-30 loss at Winnsboro.
The contest was just that, a contest, through the first quarter and into the second but when the Lady Red Raider's relentless defense created Quitman turnovers and Winnsboro outscored the visitors 15-5 in the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs faced a deficit they could not overcome.
The game opened with Winnsboro taking a 1-0 lead only to have Dawn Houck steal the ball from Winnsboro and score.
After Winnsboro responded with a basket Tori Houck gave the Lady Bulldogs a 4-3 lead halfway through the low scoring first quarter.
When Winnsboro retook the lead at 6-4 Dawn Houck stole another ball and scored to tie the game at 6-6 with 2:16 left in the quarter.
Once again Winnsboro took a two point lead, 8-6, only to have Alyssa Harris capture an offensive rebound and score in heavy traffic but that would be the final time Quitman was able to tie the game.
Winnsboro's Bailey Swanner swished a pair of three-pointers from the left corner while Quitman's Tori Houck made one of two foul shots and the first quarter came to an end with Winnsboro leading 14-9.
Dawn Houck opened the second quarter with a fine defensive play and she forced a Winnsboro turnover that she turned into two points, cutting the Winnsboro lead to 14-11. And then the game got out of control of the Lady Bulldogs.
Winnsboro went on to outscore Quitman 15-3 to close out the half leading 29-14.
In the third quarter Quitman got baskets by Tori Houck, Emilia Sanders and Allie Medlin but Winnsboro continued to pull away, outscoring Quitman14-9 in the quarter, and that led to a fourth quarter that Winnsboro dominated by a 21-7 margin.
