Tax abatement for The Vault gains council approval
Following a series of public hearings Monday, the Mineola City Council approved items ranging from a tax abatement to lighted signs in a residential area.
The tax abatement was sought by the Vault Dinner Theater, which will occupy the old Capital One bank building on E. Broad St.
The abatement was sought on $125,000 in improvements over a three-year period totaling about $1,937 in projected property taxes.
Rushing said the request will also be brought to the county.
The venue’s opening has been delayed by the coronavirus restrictions.
The council granted the First United Methodist Church two exceptions for lighted signs at its ministry center at 612 N. Newsom – one on the side of the building and the other near the street.
The council also approved a change in the off-premise sign ordinance which would allow organizations such as churches and civic clubs to continue to have off-premise signs.
A fourth hearing resulted in the approval of a special use permit for a manufactured home near Guy and Meredith Streets.
The council also approved annexation of the right-of-way along either side of Loop 564 between Hwy. 37 and Hwy. 69.
It does not impact any adjacent property and gives the city a place to extend utilities.
