• Hay Show samples are due in today (Wednesday) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Lester Cole Livestock Arena behind Mineola High School.

• School starts in Mineola on Thursday. (See story)

• Meet the Jackets is planned for Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Meredith Memorial Stadium. (See story this edition.)

• The Tourette Association Texas Chapter is meeting Saturday in Tyler from 1-3 p.m. at the East Texas Center for Independent Living.

• Monday is the day of the solar eclipse. Be sure to wear you special glasses. Check to see if the Mineola or Quitman libraries have any left. The eclipse should start at 11:45 a.m. in Mineola and Wood County and will reach its maximum coverage of 80 percent at 1:13 p.m. The moon should break from the sun at 2:44 p.m. All experts warn, do not look at the spectacle without special solar eclipse eye protection glasses.

• On Monday the Mineola Athletic Booster Club will meet at 6 p.m. in the high school gym lobby.
